Fundraising help from the Mayor’s Fund and Altrincham Choral Society.

We were delighted to hear from Mrs Barbara Twiney, who helps to organise the Mayor’s Fund , that Trafford Mencap have been chosen to receive money raised by the charity events put on this year. Mayor Tom Ross had already nominated us as one of his chosen charities, and we have also been lucky enough to be selected by Altrincham Choral Society to receive funds that they raise at their concerts. This choir was formed in 1945 and has been growing ever since, performing regularly at The RNCM, The Bridgewater Hall, Gorton Monastery, The Lowry Theatre, Huddersfield Town Hall and St Paul’s Cathedral. ACS has also sung throughout Europe, including Prague, Lake Garda, Venice and Florence. One of their biggest events of the year (and a date for your diary) is the Christmas Concert, ‘Carols with the Choral’, which will take place this year on Saturday 15th December at 3pm at St Margaret’s Church, Dunham Rd, Altrincham WA14 4AQ. It would be really nice to show our appreciation of their generosity by turning out in force for what will be an inspiring event at which we hope to highlight how helpful the support, services and advice offered by the society since its formation by a dedicated and ambitious group of volunteers so many years ago, when there really was very little available to help those who find themselves embarking on a life with a child or adult with a learning difficulty. Details of ticket prices and booking details to follow.

It was lovely to meet Tom Ross along with Steven Roberts, Director of ACS and Melanie-Anne Jose at Trafford Town Hall, where we were treated to a look behind the scenes to see the photographs of all Trafford’s Mayors, the impressive silverware and the very high tech chamber where council meetings are held.

We will keep you posted about other fundraising events put on by the Mayor’s Fund, but one coming up soon is:
