Values

Our Constitution

Trafford Mencap ensure everything we do is about valuing and supporting local people with a learning disability, and their families and carers. We are an affiliated member of Royal Mencap Society but we are independently governed which allows us to remain flexible to local needs.

We are committed to enabling personal growth now and in the future, giving each person the strongest voice with regards to decision making and lifestyle choices.

The objectives of the society are:

  1. The relief of people with a learning disability in particular by the provision of help and support for them and for their families, and carers
  2. To provide and assist in the provision of facilities for the recreation or other leisure time occupation for people who have need thereof by reason of disability with the object of improving their conditions of life
  3. To provide respite for families and carers of those with learning disabilities.

Mission Statement

Our aim is to provide information, advice and support to young people and adults with a learning disability and additional complex needs.

We recognise and celebrate the uniqueness of every individual by ensuring a person centred approach is adopted.

We are committed to enabling personal growth now and for the future, giving each person the strongest voice with regards to decision making and lifestyle choices.

Vision

Our vision mirrors the vision of ‘Valuing People Now’ which aims to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities, and the lives of their families and carers.

Together we believe that;

  • People with learning disabilities should have the same rights and choices as everyone else.
  • People with learning disabilities have the right to be treated with dignity and respect.
  • People with learning disabilities should have the same chances and responsibilities as everyone else.
  • Family carers and families of people with learning disabilities have the right to the same hopes and choices as other families.
